The Flora - Clay County ESDA unit has 18 members on the Rescue Squad
|
The Rescue Squad is made up of several volunteers that are
dedicated to keep up to date training and a high percentage rate of
participation in both training and actual calls
Over the past 50 years the squad has made a sincere effort to keep
up with changing technology in not only training but equipment and
techniques as well. Starting out with a limited amount of hand tools
and using the knowledge the members gained in their everyday
living, to more high-tech specialty tools and the opportunity to attend
more formal training in the use of the tools and to learn more
techniques that have been tried and proven by rescue squads all
over the world. A combination of the effort and the more readily
accessible training has resulted in a very capable and professional
unit.
Even though our most frequent calls deal with vehicle extrication, we
expanded our training and capabilities to allow us to respond to most
any emergency situation with a high probability of success.
Some of the different areas that we train on and have purchased
specialty equipment for are
- Vehicle Extrication - we have enough equipment to run two
operations at the same time.
- Confined Space Operations - whether it be trench rescue,
grain bin rescue, or man hole rescue.
- Water Rescue - scuba diving, open water or ice rescue.
- High Angle Rescue - rappelling and rescue equipment, as well
as the opportunity to train on a 140 foot grain elevator.
- S.A.R. - trained in ground search and rescue
- Haz-Mat - annual training in hazardous materials awareness
program
- Landing Zones - enough equipment to set up as many as three
L.Z.s at the same time and train with the local air medical units.
These are a few of the areas we train in currently but are always
looking to expand not only in areas of emergency situations but in
good new members. Anyone interested in joining the Rescue Squad
