First, the unit coordinates with the Illinois Emergency Management Agency as
well as local agencies in the event of a natural or technological disaster occurring
in the county or surrounding area.
Second, the unit has a well-trained Reserve Police Force, under the direction of the
Flora Police Chief, to assist the regular police force in times of emergencies and
other events.
Third, the unit has a rescue squad that provides free service throughout the entire
county. The rescue squad is equipped with 2 trucks, both with full sets of the Jaws
of Life. The rescue unit also provides high angle, confined space, ground
searches, and ice and water rescue.
Fourth, the unit provides trained First Responders under the supervision of the
Clay County Hospital, to assist the ambulance when needed
Fifth, the unit has a group of well-trained weather spotters who go out all over the
county and watches for changing weather conditions during storms.
